1. Start with Pranayama (breathing) exercises:

Raja Yoga places a lot of emphasis on breathing exercises, which are known as Pranayama. One simple Pranayama exercise you can do is called “Nadi Shodhana,” or alternate nostril breathing.

To practice this exercise, sit comfortably and close your right nostril with your right thumb. Inhale through your left nostril, then close it with your ring finger. Open your right nostril and exhale through it. Then, inhale through your right nostril, close it with your thumb, and exhale through your left nostril. Continue alternating back and forth between nostrils.

2. Practice Asanas (poses):

Raja Yoga does not have as many physical postures as other forms of yoga, but there are still some poses you can practice to help calm the mind and body. One good pose to start with is the “Child’s Pose.”

To practice this pose, kneel on the floor with your big toes touching and your knees spread wide apart. Slowly lower your torso down and rest your forehead on the floor. Extend your arms out in front of you, and focus on your breath as you hold the pose for several deep breaths.

3. Meditate:

The most important aspect of Raja Yoga is meditation. To meditate, find a comfortable seated position and close your eyes. Focus on your breath and try to clear your mind of any thoughts. You can also focus on a mantra or a single point of concentration, such as a candle flame.

Start with just a few minutes of meditation each day and gradually work your way up to longer periods of time.

4. Relaxation techniques:

Raja Yoga includes various relaxation techniques such as Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep), progressive muscle relaxation, and visualization.

To practice progressive muscle relaxation, lie down on your back and close your eyes. Starting at your feet, tense your muscles and hold for a few seconds, then release the tension and relax the muscles. Move up to your calves, thighs, hips, stomach, chest, arms, hands, neck, and face, tensing and releasing each group of muscles.

Conclusion

Overall, Raja Yoga is a great way to calm the mind and promote inner peace. By practicing Pranayama, Asanas, meditation, and relaxation techniques, you can improve your overall wellbeing and reduce stress.
